Changes

Alright, I decided I'm going to give this one last run. I've made a few changes to the sidebar, after finding some handy widgets. On the side there's the MeeboMe widget which will allow you to talk to me, if I'm on Meebo, or anyone else visiting the site. Additionally, I added the Google Reader widget which displays the last 5 stories I've shared on Google Reader. And lastly, I added my Twitter badge.

More updates as I have time

9-21-06: Console Wii-kend

Microsoft: Don't forget about me!
Do you have quick fingers? Do you want a 360 Core System? Do you have $100? If you answered yes to any/all of these questions, then Amazon just may have a deal for you. On November 23, 2006 at 11AM PST, Amazon will be offering one of these deals. Cast your vote for the 360 deal for $100!

Sony: You can have me! But at what cost?
I'm sure we've all heard of some of the PS3 horror stories by now. What, with the shootings, face-pole contact, and robberies. If you didn't want to risk your health, you could always blow your life savings.

Nintendo: Wii want to play!
The most prevalent gripe about the wii-lease is the Error #110213 people have been getting when trying to connect to the WiiConnect24 service. However, it just sounds like Nintendo's servers were flooded with requests.

You can probably figure out which console I ended up with this weekend. Yes, I camped out for 7 hours for the Nintendo Wii. Was it worth it? Hell yes. Multiplayer is the most fun I've had gaming in a long time. Also, the new Zelda is absolutely epic. Don't just take my word for it, it's getting incredible ratings.

O'reilly speaks out against iPods, PS3

What do gamers have in common with Jihadists? I don't know, but apparently Bill O' Reilly does. On Friday's episode of the Radio Factor, he had this to say about the PS3:

American society is changing for the worse because of the machines… In the past to flee the real world people usually chose drugs or alcohol… now you don’t have to do that, Now all you have to do is have enough money to buy a machine…

Basically what you have is a large portion of the population, mostly younger people under the age of 45, who don’t deal with reality - ever. So they don’t know what day it is; they don’t know temperature it is; they don’t know what their neighbor looks like. They don’t know anything… because they are constantly diverted by a machine. Now what this does is it takes a person away from reality because they’ve created their own reality…

Is he actually saying video games are worse than drugs and alcohol? Man, I just can't wait for my next Zelda fix, I need it bad. Also, I don't know about you, but I know what day it is, as you may be able to tell from the title of the post. I can tell you it's 53 degrees outside, and I see my neighbors every few days. He goes on to convey his ignorance on the PS3:

The newest thing is the PlayStation 3. Now this is a machine that allows you to play games in hi-def and all this other stuff… It’s the newest state of the art system from Sony…. It has a video game console, plays DVDs, connects you to the Internet, tells you how handsome you are. It’s six-hundred bucks. Now people lined up for hours to get this thing. Hours!

Hours, Bill? God forbid! Now, you may be wondering how much farther Bill will deign himself into the world of video games. Fear not, it gets better:

I don’t own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod… If this is your primary focus in life - the machines… it’s going to have a staggeringly negative effect, all of this, for America… did you ever talk to these computer geeks? I mean, can you carry on a conversation with them? …I really fear for the United States because, believe me, the jihadists? They’re not playing the video games. They’re killing real people over there.

Don't forget it, iPod listeners are destroying America through their apathy! Honestly, no one can alienate entire audiences like O'Reilly. Apparently, the "computer geeks" don't have enough social skills to be accepted by O'Reilly. Not that they would really care, after all who wants to be friends with an outspoken hypocritical pundit?

I knew I couldn't keep up once a day...

Well, I'm all settled in at my new place, have internet, and am good to go. It's been a while since my last post, and almost nothing has happened. A few stories of interest have come out, that I'm too lazy to link right now, such as: the Wii announced the release date (11/17/06), Apple Showtime keynote that failed to impress, Google & Apple may team up for iTV, and Psych was renewed for a second season. Anyway, as I said, not much of interest happened. I think after this post, this will become a primarily news blog (if I post again), since I haven't been out much while my girlfriend is in boot camp. We'll see how it goes from there.

New Place

So I heard back this morning from the place I put an application in at yesterday. Incredibly quick. Anyway, I sign the lease Friday, and it's free to move in whenever. It's about damn time I live on my own again. Having given up television, and attempting to maintain a diet, living at home directly conflicts with both. We'll see how that works out. Otherwise, I gave my final presentation, and took my final today. Before the presentation has been weighted in, I had a whopping C+. It's amazing how fast my 4.0 took a dive in college. On the bright side, I have four classes left, and then I'm done. Anyway, I'm really tired after a long day. We'll see how long I can keep this up.

...Monday

It's Monday. As if that isn't bad enough, I have a presentation due tomorrow, on the Metasploit Framework. Should be easy enough, since it's relatively well documented. I also intend to write a letter to Jessica (my girlfriend, who happens to be in boot camp) . I also have to be present for a family photo at 8, and there's a Packer game (which I can't even go to the bar for, due to the workload). I put an application in for an apartment today. It's a few blocks from where I work in downtown Madison. I can't wait to hear on that, and get the hell out of the parents' house (again). It's been a busy day, and it's about to get much busier. Anyway, back to work.

First Post

Alright, it's time to see if my life is interesting enough to warrant a blog. I guess I'll start by explaining a little bit about myself. I'm 21, I live in Madison, WI and am an IT Coordinator with the WI DNR. I attend Herzing College, currently obtaining a degree in Computer Information Systems (programming), and also work at Madison Area Technical College doing Web/Database programming. As far as interests go, I'm into programming, tabletop gaming, video games, and movies. Anyway, this has the increasingly eerie feel of a one way conversation, that I'm about to close. Updates coming soon (maybe).
